The Chaldeans were astronomer-priests from Babylonia (present-day Iraq), whose civilization flourished around 600 BC. They were renowned throughout the ancient world for their knowledge of the stars, and the word “Chaldean” became synonymous with “astrologer” in the Roman Empire. Their numerological system is probably the oldest structured system in the world.
The Core Principles
The Chaldean system differs on fundamental points from the later Pythagorean system that became dominant in the West. The most important differences:
First: the Chaldean system uses only the numbers 1 through 8. The number 9 is not assigned to earthly letters, because it is considered sacred — the number of completed creation, too exalted to be coupled with profane use. Nine appears only as the outcome of a calculation, never as a direct letter value.
Second: where the Pythagorean system uses your full birth name, the Chaldean system focuses on your common name — your everyday name, the name people address you by daily. The logic behind this is that your everyday name carries the vibration that resonates most actively in your life.

Why 9 is Sacred in the Chaldean System
In the Chaldean tradition, 9 is the number of the complete cosmic cycle. Every multiple of 9 reduces back to 9 (18→9, 27→9, 36→9). It is the number that absorbs everything into itself and loses nothing of itself — a mirror of the Divine. Therefore it may not be “lowered” to a letter value. Calculating Your Chaldean Name Number
In the Chaldean system, each letter has a specific numerical value that does not simply follow the alphabet (unlike Pythagoras). The assignments are based on the sound vibration of each letter, not its position in the alphabet:

Vedic numerology is a branch of Jyotish — Vedic astrology, literally “the science of light.” This system dates back to the Vedic period (ca. 1500 BC) and is inseparably interwoven with Hindu cosmology, the planetary deities and the doctrine of karma and dharma.
Planet-Number Correspondence
What is unique about Vedic numerology is that each number is directly linked to a planet (graha), and thereby to a complete set of cosmic energies, character traits and life domains. The planetary energy of your birth number determines your fundamental character:

Rahu and Ketu — The Lunar Nodes
